not a nice girl written and performed by Cheryl King, directed by Rod Menzies
June 17 Saturday 8pm
Stage Left Studio, 438 West 37th Street 5A (b/w 9th and 10th Aves)
A 65 minute solo show, written and performed by Cheryl King, a NY-based V-Day organizer. Cheryl is a woman whose ebullient and optimistic attitude toward life and goddess energy shines in both the dark and humorous moments of her play. She has performed the play nationwide, and its message is both powerful and pertinent to the V-Day mission. Within her subject matter, rape, incest, identity, sexual identity, and personal freedom, she has done us all the tremendous favor of not theatricalizing the subject, but rather, humanizing it. This play does not judge, she is not embarrassed in presenting her experiences, and she makes us so comfortable that we cannot ignore her. The impact of "not a nice girl" brings us a step closer to prevention. Aaron Petrovich, NYC
